This December, for the third year running, the historic Inner Close of Winchester Cathedral will become alive with the excitement and animation of another Christmas Market and real outdoor Ice-rink. The Christmas Market is inspired by traditional German Christmas Markets & will be made up of 84 wooden chalets all festively decorated, some of them almost Tyrolean in style, selling all kinds of inspiring, tasteful and beautiful gifts to please even the most discerning shopper. |

The Chalets
During the 18 days you will find exhibitors all very carefully chosen, and among the finest you will find at any event in this country. Not all exhibitors will be attending for all 18 days, so if you come to the Market during the first week, do come again during the second week (from Saturday 6th onwards) when you will find almost half the exhibitors will be new!

Food & Drink
This year, there will again be a separate ‘Food Court’ with 10 specialty food chalets selling continental as well as British festive delicacies. There will be no big commercial stands or mass produced food, but instead a wonderful and carefully researched selection of real food producers from as close to home as Hampshire and as far a field as South Germany. Among the stalls you will find there will be:
 |
- authentic German ‘Bratwurst’ in pretzel rolls served with Gluhwein
- Breton ‘crepes’ & artisan ‘saucisson’ from the south of France
- freshly made Belgian waffles with fancy toppings
- Viennese hot chocolate
- home made soups, mince pies, Stollen...
- a Hungarian chalet with traditional Hungarian foods and seasonal Christmas specialities
|
……the array of gourmet temptations will be endless and representing the Christmas traditions of several European countries.

Charities & the Local Community
There will be one chalet particularly dedicated to charities & to helping the local community. The charities we will be supporting this year are:
- Make a Wish Foundation.
- Mencap
- B.U.G.S. (Burns Unit Group Support)
- Brainstrust
- St. Cross Hospital
- Jubilee Sailing Trust
- Hope & Homes for Children
All these charities are given a free chalet for 1-4 days during the Christmas Market and the proceeds from their sales help to support their good causes. Please do support them.
In addition, we are also delighted to welcome again the St. Elizabeth Convent from Minsk in Russia, who will be selling gifts and crafts to help their work with orphans, the homeless, the handicapped and drug addicts in Russia.
The Cathedral and Christ Church, Winchester will also have 2 chalets promoting the Christian mission.
