Official Opening & Lantern Parade

One of the highlights of the Cathedral’s Christmas events is the spectacular lantern procession which takes place on the opening evening of the Christmas Market, Thursday 25 November. Lantern bearers weave their way from Winchester’s Great Hall to the Cathedral holding their brightly coloured glowing lanterns high above. The procession has only been running for 2 years but already has a huge following.

To take part in the event we ask you to attend one or more of our lantern-making workshops. These will be held in venues across the city throughout November, details of these workshops will be posted on this website later this year.
