Official Opening & Lantern ParadePaper Lantern Procession – Friday 27 November 2009 Although the Christmas Market will be fully open from 10am on Friday 27th November, to mark the opening of the Christmas Market and ice rink there will be a grand parade of huge and colourful paper lanterns through the town at 6.30pm that evening. The parade will start at The Great Hall and process down the High Street, into the Outer Close of the Cathedral and then into the Inner Close where the procession will assemble for a visually spectacular launch of the Christmas Market and ice-rink. This will be followed by the Official Opening of the Christmas Market and Ice-Rink. Prizes will be awarded for the best lanterns. Judging at 5.45pm at the Great Hall.
Lantern Making Workshops In order to teach children, young people and even families how to make a lantern for the Procession, a series of workshops is being organised around the city where you can come and learn how to make these wonderful paper lanterns.

Sunday 15th November
St. John’s Street, Winchester.
Lantern Making Workshop for Teachers/Youth Leaders/Scout Leaders, etc. This workshop is being organised for adults so they can learn the skills necessary to make a lantern and then use their skills to teach other young people how to do so.
