Coach Parties

From the number of enquiries we (Winchester Cathedral) have had this year from tour operators and coach companies interested in coming to the Christmas Market & Ice-Rink we are aware that there are going to be a large number of coaches coming to Winchester this December. Therefore, we would ask you to please inform us of your intended date and time of arrival in Winchester. We will then send a steward to greet your coach party and accompany them via an easy route to the Christmas Market, and we will help direct you to the coach parking area.

Coach Parking

As there is only very limited coach parking in central Winchester, we have secured a special parking area, reserved for coaches only, just on the outskirts of the city. There will be no cost for parking at this site. It has a nearby refreshment area for coach drivers. Full details will be sent to Tour Operators, who make contact with us.

Coach Drop- Off Point

The coach drop off point is in The Broadway, just beside the Guildhall. The Broadway is an extension of the High Street and so very central. When you arrive in the Broadway, please do a U turn so you drop off passengers with the coach facing towards the King Alfred statue, not towards the shopping street (which is where buses stop). There is a glass bus stop on this side with ‘Coaches’ written clearly on it! Opposite the drop off point are toilets and it is also only a short distance and level walk to the Christmas Market.

Parties arriving by coach will be greeted by one of the Stewards from the Christmas Market, and this steward will escort the party to the Christmas Market via Watergate, one of the entrances to the Market. By bringing groups into the Market this way, you will avoid the congestion and queues that are likely to form in front of the cathedral, at the other entrance to the Christmas Market and Ice-Rink. The Steward can also answer any questions your group may have about their trip to Winchester. On arrival, if you cannot find or see a steward, or if you coach’s arrival is going to be delayed please ring 01962 857 200 (Cathedral Reception).
