Coach Parties

This year we are expecting a large number of coaches to the Christmas Market & Ice-Rink and therefore we would like to urge all coach companies and tour operators to contact us to inform us of their plans, so we can coordinate arrival and departures, and ensure everything runs smoothly for your groups visit to the Christmas Market.

Michael Honeysett at Winchester Cathedral looks after Group Visits and Coach Parties and he will be very happy to help with all elements of your visit to the Christmas Market, Ice-rink and Cathedral. We also offer a meet and greet service when your coach arrives in Winchester, so someone can welcome your group and escort them to the Christmas Market.

Coach Parking

The city coach park in Winchester is in Worthy Lane, where there is only space for 11 coaches. Should the number of coaches coming to the Christmas Market on any day exceed this number, then we may be able to secure alternative coach parking on the outskirts of the city. However, it is strongly advisable for tour operators, to contact us, so we ensure we have enough parking arranged for everyone!

Coach Drop- Off Point

The coach drop off point is in The Broadway, just beside the Guildhall. The Broadway is an extension of the High Street and so very central. When you arrive in the Broadway, please do a U turn so you drop off passengers with the coach facing towards the King Alfred statue, not towards the shopping street (which is where buses stop). There is a glass bus stop on this side with ‘Coaches’ written clearly on it! Opposite the drop off point are toilets and it is also only a short distance and level walk to the Christmas Market.

Parties arriving by coach will be greeted by one of the Stewards from the Christmas Market, and this steward will escort the party to the Christmas Market via Watergate, one of the entrances to the Market. By bringing groups into the Market this way, you will avoid the congestion and queues that are likely to form in front of the cathedral, at the other entrance to the Christmas Market and Ice-Rink. The steward will also be happy to answer any questions your group may have about their trip to Winchester.
