Travel & Parking

 

It is expected that more than 250,000 visitors will be attending this year’s Christmas Market which will increase the demand for parking within the city. Please consider using public transport as the bus station is located off the High Street and the train station is only a 10 minute walk downhill to the city centre. If you are travelling by car, please see the information below about Park and Ride and city centre car parks.

 

Car parks

There are 7 short stay car parks & 9 long stay car parks in central Winchester. Details of charges and opening times can be found by going to: www.winchester.gov.uk/TransportAndStreets/Parking

 

Park & Ride

There are 2 Park & Ride services in Winchester, at St. Catherine's & Barfield. Both are signposted and within easy reach of the M3. Southbound traffic should leave the M3 at Jct. 9; northbound traffic at Jct. 10.

Buses run from 6.45am - 6.50pm from Mondays to Saturdays.

Free parking

Free parking will be available at the following times:


After 4pm in all City Centre pay and display car parks on the following Thursdays from 13th November until Christmas: 13th, 20th & 27th November and 4th, 11th & 18th December.

After 4pm in all City Centre pay and display car parks from Wednesday 17th Dec until 24th December.


For operational reasons, this concession is limited to pay and display car parks and not barrier controlled car parks.


The following car parks only apply: Friarsgate MSCP, Tower MSCP, Colebrook Street, Middle Brook Street, Chesil Street Surface, Durngate, Cossack Lane, Jewry Street, St Peters, and Upper Brook Street.


Trains

Winchester is on a direct line from London Waterloo with frequent trains daily including weekends. The train station is about a 10 minute walk from the city centre.
